I grew up in a small town in California's San Joaquin Valley. I was blessed to live in a highly diversified agricultural area. I learned early on to appreciate the bountiful fruits grown here. After retiring from teaching kindergarten for 37 years, I re-invented myself and started making jellies to sell during the holidays. It gave me great pleasure to return to my roots... seeking out the finest fresh fruit, picked at the peak of ripeness, and canning it to savor all its natural sweetness.
I named my company You Sweet Thing in honor of my Mother. My mother was born and raised in Texas. She had a gracious southern attitude and appreciation for life. Friends and family would always drop by our home bringing various fruits, vegetables, and flowers. My mother would always reply, "Why you sweet thing!", with her Southern "twang." It seemed a natural name for me.
